Today I want to continue my series on what you can learn from a nun about business. You can click on the links to read Part 1, Part 2 and Part 4.
Over the winter holiday, I stayed at a non-speaking convent in Northern Alabama. The lessons I learned here really put my own life and business into perspective. I also believe that these lessons are universal – they can make a difference in your life and business as well.
While at the convent, I had the special privilege of eating meals with the sisters. This is a privilege not granted to most visitors. These 3 times daily meals gave me a real insight to their lives and thoughts and the conversations were surprising. They’re actually incredibly ‘regular’ people.
Being unmarried, I wondered if I’d leave the center with a proposition to join the vocation. And the pitch came, in a most convincing way.
During a calm and pleasant conversation one evening (during meals talking and conversation was encouraged) one of the sisters asked me if I had a partner back home. I told her no, but that I was “working on it.” She then said, “Well, if that plan doesn’t happen you could have the best partner there is at the convent.”
This was priceless!
Lesson #5: Pitch Your Passion
Although this wonderful lady was pitching me, it sure didn’t feel like it. She truly believed in what she was doing, and she truly believed that she could help me. This belief and passion makes all the difference in how your business or concept is perceived by others.
If you’re not there yet, don’t worry! Help is available, now.
Today, use every opportunity to pitch your passion. Talk from your heart and approach people with the belief that you can truly help them. You might be surprised at what happens.
